They are absolutely divine! I am amazed how quickly they came in the mail. Both are Royal Worcester which is the most prestigous porcelain makers in England that make these. So, 7.00 each and 4.20 shipping for both. Not too bad cause to send for them new they are around 25.00 each. Here are the pictures:

I am not the best photographer when it comes to things that create glare so the pics don't do them justice at all. The colors are very bright and hand painted so they are lovely. I think the birds are actually prettier than the flowers. On the back of the bird one is a single brown wren and on the back of the flower one is a single small pink rose.

Thanks again Christine for the heads up. Can anybody guess what I am having for breakfast tomorrow???????

OK, jumping in here on the coddled eggs a little late, but I've been reading and re-reading this info and Googling coddled eggs till my eyes are crossed.

Are coddled eggs the same as soft-boiled eggs? I read something that stated they were still raw, but the photos I found didn't look raw, they looked like the whites were cooked and the yolks were soft. I love poached eggs but haven't made them in a long time because I often get the water too hot and end up with something that looks more like egg drop soup - with the whites floating all around in the water.

I guess I'm still a little confused about this. Can anyone enlighten me? At least as relates to coddled eggs? I'm not sure that there is any hope of enlightening me as relates to anything else. laughing-smiley-011.gif

Not raw at all...You can cook them runny or tough as an old shoe depending on how long you boil them.

OK. That's sort of what I thought. Thanks for the super-quick reply and clarification.

I am going to pin this thread so that we can all find it. Are there any more of you that have purchased egg coddlers? If you have, how do you like them and what all do you put in them? Oh, and what size do you have?

Here is my latest ebay purchase of a giant egg coddler. I put the smallest one next to it so you could see just how large it is.

I MUST thank the Swami for letting me know that there was such a size. I don't think that hubby will be too happy that I have something else to obcess over though!

OOOH! I hadnt seen this thread...

My two egg coddlers arrived, and they are the smaller size. The only issue I had with them...<blushing here>, is that I put a little cooking spray in it, added the egg, pepper, and some shredded cheese...put it on and let it cook for 5 minutes in the boiling water...got ALL excited, took it out, let it sit for a minute, opened it up and scooped out a spoonful of icky almost raw egg <I like mine cooked pretty well>. I couldnt tell the egg was undercooked because I had put the shredded cheese on top. Next time, I will cook the egg first, THEN add the cheese!

Thanks for the great ideas....but Celadon...maybe we need some coddled egg recipes?

Hugs! love0028.gif

Everyone that has coddlers, post here what you do with them. Marianna, next time, put the cheese in first and the problem is solved.

Celadon...I was afraid the cheese would burn to the bottom of the coddler...

Guess I belong cleaning the kitchen...and not cooking in it!

Okay to all you coddler's out there in the hood...

What is your favorite coddler recipe? I love just plain egg with a little cheese, but sometimes I want something with a little POW!!!!!! to it.

So, how do YOU coddle?

OK, Marianna, do you have only the singles?? If this is the case, I'd buy small sized eggs at the
market for starters. A Med or Large egg will fill the single coddlers.
  • I butter the inside of my coddlers a bit and then
  • sprinkle some salt and pepper with a bit of pre-fried ground sausage with onion...
  • Break the egg into the coddler and bring the water to a boil.
  • I continue boiling mine for about 8-9 mins and then let it sit for a few more... But YOU will have to figure the right timing for the way you like your egg. This makes a rather firm egg.
If you pre-fry the ground sausage, browned with a bit of onion or garlic or both... you can freeze it
laying flat in the freezer bag so that you can remove maybe a half a teaspoon full at a time.
Nothing saying you couldn't whizzzzz up an egg slurry in the blender with whatever makes ya
happy and then fill multiple coddlers to cook simultaneously for the family!
The two egg coddlers are called KING size. And the giant one like Celadon just purchased (me too)
are called Maxime sized coddlers. They're almost "Mini-Pot-O-Yum" sized! (and harder to find) but could easily
accommodate two eggs and more fixin's if cooking for two.

Enjoy!!!

Mickee...I have only single coddlers...I bid for a larger one, but lost. sad0049.gif

Thank you for the recipe though...I hadnt thought about putting meat in there...makes it a complete meal...yum!

I am going to be stalking ebay until I find a HUGE coddler though...they look like FUN!

Can't get that song out of my mind now...

"I'm going on a coddler hunt, turn it around...women have been hunting those eggs are all around ...oh a coddler hunt..."

Okay, too slap happy I guess!

Remember... single... king and maxime sizes
sort of like memorizing Starbuck's size nomenclature, eh?

They are beautiful!
I have never heard of a coddled egg before.
Just plop the egg inside and boil?

Cool - and pretty!
